With the 1.2 milestone, Qworum reaches a status where it is capable of offering enterprise-grade performance in demanding environments. Changes in this version include:

Robust error handling
The try statement follows industry best practices for error handling, and offers functionality that is on par with leading programming languages such as Java

Improved efficiency
The power and expressiveness of messages are enhanced through a unified message model. As a result, server load is reduced and network traffic is decreased.

Qworum is available to business customers through Qworum Enterprise. The browser add-on is offered as a free download for internet users.

Qworum 1.1

Version 1.1 of the Qworum specification defines a new user-agent capability that is of significant practical importance to service developers: the client-side storage of call state.

The storage method provided by Qworum is to be preferred to conventional server-side storage in session objects for the following cases:

The service call spans several servers
In this case, all phases of a given call have easy access to client-side state, whereas the state stored on one server is only accessible to phases which run on that server.
The service call is recursive
With Qworum 1.1, if a service makes direct or indirect calls to itself, then each call has its state stored on a different call frame on the client-side call stack.
The service call has long duration
Web servers periodically delete server-side session objects which are considered "old", in order to avoid clutter. In contrast, client-side call state exists as long as the call itself, regardless of call duration.
Scalability is a concern
With Qworum 1.1, web applications are able to take advantage of the storage capabilities of their clients, which minimizes the cost per user in terms of server storage space.

The Qworum 1.1 implementation is available as a free download for internet users. A business version is provided through Qworum Enterprise.

Version 1.0 of the Qworum specification has finally been published.

This version allows composition messages to describe more complex execution scenarios than using the version 0.9, and web applications can use such messages to initiate a whole sequence of service calls. Starting from this version, composition messages are becoming powerful enough to describe application logic, and they are starting to look like regular programs.

The browser add-on which implements this version is currently in development.

In order to develop its activities, Qworum is currently looking for distribution partners and investors.

As an official distribution partner, your company will be autorized to sell subscriptions for Qworum services to its customers. Domain name registrars are particularly well positioned to profit from a distribution agreement with Qworum, which will help them increase their revenue per domain name. The Qworum pricing structure has been designed from the start to be compatible with that of domain name registrars.

Qworum also welcomes investors. We will carefully examine any serious business proposition that helps us achieve our business objectives. We will answer all propositions. Currently, our operating costs mainly consist of intellectual property protection fees and web hosting fees.

Qworum is finally open for business. We are here to help you, the web developer, make money with your website. Here is our value proposition:

You implement a given website functionality on your website as a set of Qworum services. For instance, you might implement an interactive calendar, or an address book.
You sell service subscriptions to website owners through our service shop, which is now fully operational.

Our job, as Qworum, is twofold:

Help you sell as many service subscriptions as possible.
Provide you with the technology for integrating your services into other websites.

First step towards the service marketplace

Qworum is in the process of transitioning from a bare bones web specification to a marketplace for services.

In this marketplace, the seller provides Qworum services on his/her website, and sells service subscriptions to buyers, on a per domain basis.

Sellers can already create an account and describe the services they provide, including the subscription fees.

The next step will be the implementation of the service shop for buyers. Stay tuned.

Qworum has finally launched, after several months during which we have finalized the first version of the Qworum specification, tested the Firefox implementation, and developed the initial version of this website.

We invite web developers worldwide to the Qworum universe, and hope that they (you!) will find Qworum to be a valuable software infrastructure solution for websites. Qworum is just getting started, so stay tuned!
